Welcome to our Kabi Bunya People website.

KABI BUNYA PEOPLE:

The Kabi Bunya People are the people of Kabi Bunya Djha, which is the Ancestrally inherited Tribal Country of the Sovereign Native Tribes of the Kabi First Nation State from the Great South Land now commonly known as 'Australia'.

SACRED BUNYA

Bunya trees are native to Kabi Bunya Djha and they are sacred to Kabi people. Bunya trees are regarded as prized possessions of members of the Kabi tribes. Kabi peoples planted, and protected sacred Bunya trees. The cones of the Bunya contain 'bunya nuts' a valuable food source relied on by Kabi peoples. Kabi tribes shared Bunya with visitors to the Bunya Law/Lore gatherings for countless generations.

Scientists have verified that Bunya trees have survived since the time of the dinosaurs. Bunya cones have provided an important and nutritious food source for Kabi people since time immemorial.
